FAQ
Answers to common questions about lawn care, landscaping, soil health, and property maintenance.
Do you offer weekly and bi-weekly lawn service?
Yes. Weekly mowing is typically recommended during peak growing season in Minnesota because it keeps turf healthy and prevents cutting too much grass at one time. Consistent mowing also helps maintain density and appearance. Bi-weekly service can work during slower growth periods or for lower-maintenance properties.
What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve St. Paul, Minneapolis, Edina, Roseville, Maplewood, Mendota Heights, West St. Paul, Eagan, and nearby Twin Cities neighborhoods. If you are close to these areas but unsure whether we service your property, simply send us your address and we can confirm availability.
What’s included in a standard mowing visit?
A typical mowing visit includes mowing the lawn, trimming around obstacles, edging where needed, and blowing off sidewalks, patios, and driveways. The goal is to leave the property looking clean and finished rather than simply cutting the grass.
How often should lawns be mowed in Minnesota?
Most Minnesota lawns benefit from mowing about once per week during the growing season. Regular mowing prevents excessive grass removal and helps maintain proper mowing height. This supports deeper root growth and stronger turf.
How do you address weeds and lawn health issues?
When lawns struggle with weeds or thinning turf, the first step is evaluating soil conditions. Soil testing can identify nutrient deficiencies or pH imbalances that affect grass growth. Based on those results we may recommend improvements such as fertilization, aeration, overseeding, or adjustments to mowing practices.
How can I improve the overall health of my lawn?
Healthy lawns result from a combination of consistent mowing, balanced soil nutrients, and seasonal services. Aeration improves oxygen and water movement through the soil while overseeding helps fill thin areas. Over time these practices strengthen turf density and appearance.
Can you help with compacted soil or thinning lawns?
Yes. Compacted soil and thin turf are common in high traffic areas. Aeration loosens compacted soil and allows water, nutrients, and oxygen to reach the root system more effectively. Overseeding can then introduce new grass growth and improve lawn density.
Do you bag grass clippings?
Bagging is available when needed, although many lawns benefit from mulching clippings back into the turf. Mulched clippings decompose quickly and return nutrients to the soil. We recommend the best option depending on lawn conditions and homeowner preference.
Do you provide seasonal yard cleanups?
Yes. Spring cleanups remove winter debris and prepare lawns and beds for new growth. Fall cleanups remove leaves and organic buildup that could affect turf health over the winter months. These services help keep properties looking maintained throughout the year.
Do you install mulch, rock, and landscape beds?
Yes. We install mulch and decorative rock beds, refresh existing beds, and define clean bed edges. Proper bed preparation and installation help improve curb appeal and reduce weed pressure. We focus on making landscape beds look clean and intentional.
Do you help with planting, pruning, and hedge trimming?
Yes. We assist with shrub planting, pruning, and hedge trimming to keep landscapes healthy and well structured. Proper pruning encourages healthy plant growth and prevents plants from becoming overgrown or unbalanced.
Do you offer landscape design consultations?
Yes. For larger landscape projects we can meet with homeowners to discuss layout ideas and long-term goals for the property. During these consultations we review the space together and discuss options such as landscape beds, plantings, patios, retaining walls, and other design improvements.
Are you insured?
Yes. Hank’s Landscaping is insured and we take care to work carefully and responsibly on every property. Our goal is to provide professional service while giving homeowners confidence that their property is being handled properly.
